Red November - W. Craig Reed

This is a nonfiction that works well as an audiobook (that's what I had). Reed tells stories about his dad, who invented technology to locate Russian subs with more precision than ever before; about his friends, who include American and Russian submariners active during the height of the Cold War; and about his own experiences in covert submarine missions into enemy territory. He's a good storyteller, too, preferring conversation and character to fact and figure.

A fascinating exploration of a niche of warfare. I like finding books that take things down to the nuts and bolts, and tell the story not just of political forces, presidents and generals, but pilots and family legacies on the ground (or under the water).
